THE BAND
The popular band, King Biscuit Revue
combines talent from some of Southern California's finest
musicians, who have opened for such legends as Ray Charles,
B.B. King, Bobby Bland, Charles Mingus, and many more…
KBR’s music is a synthesis of Rhythm and Blues, Swing, Soul, Jazz, Jump Blues, Funk, and Motown. Upbeat, contagious, and SUPER DANCEABLE….the right mix of MALE AND FEMALE VOCALS, rhythm section, HORNS, guitar, and keyboard. Ken Schoppmeyer on harmonica and vocals is arguably one of THE best in the nation. This is a professional, hi-energy, SUPER FUN! dance band that plays AUTHENTIC little known “gems” of rhythm and blues from the past, and ALSO COVERS OF YOUR FAVORITES from artists such as Stevie Wonder, Etta James, Marvin Gaye, Bonnie Raitt, Ray Charles, Joe Turner and SO much more…
INFLUENCES: Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Bonnie Raitt, Marvin Gaye, Delbert McClinton, Etta James, Brook Benton, Nina Simone, Ruth Brown, Joe Turner, Louis Prima, Tower of Power, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, Louis Jordan, B.B. King, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Sonny Boy Williamson, Little Walter, and all the greats of Blues, Soul and Rhythm & Blues, and Jazz …
Contrary to many overly loud bands with too much emphasis on screaming guitar, KBR is the right mix of rhythm section, horns, guitar, keyboard, harp and vocals. You need to hear to appreciate!
THE PLAYERS:
Ken Schoppmeyer - Harmonica / Male Lead Vocals. With a rich, full voice spanning 4 octaves, Ken can stand alone against any vocalist in the West. But then he picks up that harp and blows it like nobody’s business! Harmonica books mention him in the same paragraph as Stevie Wonder; Ken recently played a tour of Europe and was treated like a King by Blues Societies and Consul Generals alike! He has over 30 years of experience opening for all the blues greats whose tours stopped in San Diego…He is THE best kept secret in So. Cal!
Jan Wallace - Female Lead Vocals - with a voice that's a little blues, a little jazz, and a touch of country, she'll keep you entertained, both vocally and visually...
Glenn Frazier - Drummer - This man plays every style.. a monster drummer out of Cleveland who’s been playing since he was 2... He cut his teeth with Gospel groups; has been featured on TV...we're darn lucky to have this World Class Drummer!
Milton Fletcher - Keyboard - tickling the ivories since he was 4 years old, this cat will astound you with his unique and soulful blend of blues and jazz. Just back from a tour of Japan - this Berkelee School of Music trained musician is an auditory treat -- to say the least!
Murray Cohen - Bass / Vocals - Murray is from Pittsburgh and whether its an "old school approach" or an improvisional touch; he is truly gifted at laying down the right bass groove to any blues, swing, funk or jazzy tune...with over 3 1/2 decades of playing he’s got the right bag of tricks!
Michael Halls - Guitar /Vocals – Originally from London, Mike has performed and recorded with Alan Price [the Animals] and various members of Dire Straits, Eric Clapton’s Band and the Yardbirds. Mike has been a well known figure on the British blues scene since the late 60’s.
Don Carter - Trombone - "...the kind of passion, stage presence and expertise you rarely see on a trombone... he has so much energy and personality on that stage! I was amazed that he could play like that AND dance — what talent!”
Aaron Hudson - Saxophone - a young cat with the style of a Coltrane or Bird...you'll be mesmerized with his chops and soul.
Contrary to many LOUD DISTORTED bands with too much emphasis on screaming guitar, KBR is the right mix of DRIVING rhythm section, horns, guitar, keyboard, harmonica, vocals and harmonies. You need to hear to appreciate!
