Glenn was born to drum. Born and Raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Glenn has been playing drums all of his life. At the early age of two, Glenn would arrange his toys together and start to bang on them with pens and pencils - there was no stopping this future drummer. Participating in the Church Choir and Praise Team gave Glenn his foundation in Gospel music, which became a primary influence on his music for the rest of his life. Some of his most important influences include The Rance Allan Band, Earth Wind and Fire, and John P. Kee, while his favorite bands are Swing Mob and Mint Condition. Prince, Sheila E. and Maurice Fitzgerald are some of Glen's favorite musicians and Calvin Rodgers, Cleve Lockwood, Ladell Abrams and Dennis Chambers make up the list for favorite Drummers.
After playing in Cleveland for a few years, Glenn worked his way up and became one of the top session players in Gospel and R&B, both for recordings and for live shows. He had much success in Cleveland, but knew there would be much more opportunity "out west." He joined The Fabulous Rudies and knew right away that this band was for him. He felt this group had the complete package, combining a unique style, versatile musicianship and raw energy.
Most people who have seen Glenn play are awestruck, and wonder how he does it! His approach to drumming allowed him to be faster than the average player by concentrating his left hand on keeping the beat on hi-hat, ride and snare drum, while freeing up his right hand for accents and fast fills. Although this style is usually performed by left-handed players, Glenn is right-handed and uses this technique for more freedom, which is exemplified time and time again in his playing.
Glenn is a very important member of King Biscuit Revue. He has the ability to play any style - Blues, R & B, Funk, Ska, and Reggae. Glenn has a style reminiscent of Bernard Purdie, drummer for Aretha Franklin and a multitude of artists at Atlantic Records. Like Bernard, Glenn keeps rock solid time, while using dynamics to propel the band - subtly shifting the tempo, adding color, and accenting notes and entire passages by changing volume and adding dynamics. In addition, the strength of his personal presence guides and subtly uplifts every member of the band. He is truly a world class drummer!
